Udaipur, fondly called the City of Lakes is a stunning corner of Rajasthan that is bound to endear most visitors. You can spend your time wandering through narrow alleyways that are rich in history, sampling delicious local food, and admiring the vibrant Rajasthan fabrics that bob in the wind. It is also a great place to share stories with the locals who always greet you with a huge smile.
Udaipur Accommodation
We recommend that you choose a hotel that makes your Udaipur stay more than a regular hotel. There are many options for accommodation in Udaipur that will suit every budget. Choose an atmospheric B&B in the city centre if you're on a budget.
You can spend a lot if you are willing to indulge in luxury at Lake Pichola. There are three most popular choices: the Oberoi Udaivilas and Taj Lake Palace. We chose Leela Palace Udaipur and had a sensational time. It's no surprise that this hotel is the number one hotel in India according to Tripadvisor. The hotel is elegant, picturesque, and offers special dining options. Highly recommended.
Things to Do and See in Udaipur
Here are our top picks for things to do and places to see in Udaipur.
1) City palace
City Palace is a bit of an icon in Udaipur. This Mewar Palace is a must-see on any city tour. You can walk through the 400-year-old courtyards and enter brightly colored rooms. Then, look out through stained glass windows that are colourful. Visitors are not allowed to enter the City Palace's scenic arches or terraces, which makes it less enjoyable. But that doesn't stop people from crowding the City Palace in Udaipur.
2) Sunset at Lake Pichola
To see the other iconic Udaipur, one doesn't need to go far beyond the City Palace. Visit the lakes, of course, is one of the best things to do in Udaipur. Lake Pichola, the largest lake in the city, is a stunning sight at all times of the day. From City Palace, and other areas of the old city, you can easily spot Lake Pichola. We recommend taking a sunset cruise to the lake, where you can sip a drink and watch the sun set over Aravallis.
3) Doodh Taalai
Although everyone makes a run for the famous Lake Pichola, it's the smaller lakes that hold my heart. You should check out the tiny lake Doodh Tarai outside of the old city. It makes for beautiful photographs which is probably why it's so popular among wedding photographers.
4) Badi lake
Badi Lake is another lake you should visit when you're in Udaipur. If you're looking for some adventure on vacation, there is a pleasant hike nearby. Badi Lake is a beautiful backdrop for photos and is one of the most stunning sights in the region.
5) Monsoon Palace
Sajjangarh or Monsoon Palace is the perfect place to watch the sun set over the city of Udaipur. Monsoon Palace is a great place to go with a one way cab from udaipur in the evening. Take a walk through the intricate archways and take in the views before you continue on until the sun sets.
