It is almost like a movie set. In fact, it was used once as the backdrop for a James Bond movie ( Octoberopussy 1983). Perhaps there was good reason. Udaipur is undoubtedly one the most popular tourist destinations in India, thanks to its beautiful forts and stunning lakes as well as centuries of culture and history.

According to Indian history, Udaipur was the capital of the Kingdom of Mewar. We were short on time and this was a quick trip. During our two-day trip to Udaipur, we decided to limit hotel time and allow maximum street hours. Mewar is a hilly, green and vibrant part of Rajasthan. It is located on the windward side Aravallis, one of the oldest mountains of the world.

Lake Pichola

We discovered that Lake Pichola was a city that thrived around it, both historically and in its current state. It is a man-made lake. This is interestingly explained by a gypsy who is known in Rajasthan as "Banjara". The city was built around the lake by Maharana Udai Sing, founder of Udaipur, many years later.

The focal point of our attention was the Lake Palace Hotel by the renowned Taj group. We were captivated by the hotel's shimmering lights reflecting on the water. Udaipur is best experienced wth one way cab from udaipur in person. According to our sources, several generations of the kings had a similar love for the lake. Each generation built palaces that were left on the four islands of the lake and adjacent land to enhance the beauty of the lake.

Bagore Ki Haveli Experience

Visit the palatial Haveli on the shores Lake Pichola for a stunning view. This is one of the most popular things to do in Udaipur. These massive structures are a living museum that gives a glimpse into the royal love of the kings. Our first day in Udaipur ended with the Dharohar dance show at Bagore Ki Haveli. The show lasts for an hour and starts at 7 pm. The atmosphere was traditional Rajasthani, with the balconies beautifully lit up. Three sides of the terrace are covered with large mattresses. These serve as seats for the audience. Dharohar's dance show, which is lively and demonstrates the culture and tradition of Rajasthani folklore in a captivating way, is called Dharohar.

Fateh Sagar Lake

It is a long trip to Udaipur, so it makes planning a quick trip there difficult. We still wanted to make sure we didn't miss any important spots so Fateh Sagar lake was next on the list. This is another lake named after Maharana Fateh Sing.artificial freshwater lakeIn 1680s. There are many islands in the lake, with the largest being the Nehru Park.
